Elf (2003)

1h 37m / PG / Comedy

Comedian Will Ferrell is at his best in fish-out-of-water comedies, and Elf might be his best. At least it’s his most widely appealing. A good-natured and charming comedy about Buddy the Elf’s search for his biological family and the rejuvenating power of the Christmas spirit, Elf is poignant and family-friendly besides showcasing a hilarious and completely unrestrained performance from Ferrell. A great cast around him — Zooey Deschanel as his sweet love interest, Bob Newhart as his adoptive father, and dozens more — turns a contemporary film celebrating its 20th anniversary into a classic for all ages that has cemented its place on the holiday must-see list.
