RENT (2005)

2h 15m / PG-13 / Musical Drama

At the dawn of the 1990s, New Yorkers Mark (Anthony Rapp), an aspiring filmmaker, and his roommate Roger (Adam Pascal), an HIV-positive musician, scramble for money to pay their landlord and former roommate, Benjamin Coffin III (Taye Diggs), who married for money and has become the opposite of all that the young bohemians stand for. Meanwhile, their friend Tom (Jesse L. Martin), a professor, has fallen for drag queen and street musician Angel (Wilson Jermaine Heredia), who is slowly dying of AIDS.

Based on Puccini’s opera La Boheme, the Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning rock opera remains one of the most popular musicals of all time. Like the stage versions, the film dives into the lives of the group of young friends struggling with their careers, love lives and the effects of the AIDS epidemic on their community. Set in time between Christmas Eve and New Year’s, RENT genuinely captures the bittersweet hope that comes with the start of each and every new year.

Holiday Classics 2023

DONATE TO OUR DIAPER DRIVE

Tampa Theatre is partnering with the Junior League of Tampa this holiday season to help the one in three families in the United States who struggle to provide their babies with clean, dry diapers. Guests attending Holiday Classics film screenings are invited to bring in disposable diapers of any type, size or brand, wipes and diaper cream, or help by purchasing items off of the Junior League of Tampa’s Amazon Wishlist.

Opened packages of disposable diapers are acceptable; however, please place them in a plastic zip-top bag, and label them with the size. Many of those in need use public laundry facilities, which do not permit washing cloth diapers for hygiene reasons. Accordingly, this is a disposable diaper collection only. We cannot accept cloth diapers, nor can we accept opened formula or other baby necessities, to ensure the health and safety of our participating families.
